Nebraska Elementary National Dual Teams 2024

This will be a 35 team National dual event.  The largest Elementary National duals in the United States of America

Event: Heartland USA Elementary National folkstyle duals @ Mid America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa., March 28th, 29th and 30th, 2024

Must qualify for the Nebraska USA dual team at the USA folk style State Tournament in Grand Island on March 17th & 18th  2024.


We will be taking 4 teams this year.  We are going to Council Bluffs, Iowa @ Mid America Center.  Nebraska USA is hosting this tournament and it’s great to have it right here close to home.

  • The weight classes for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade at USA State are the same as the Heartland USA Elementary National dual weights, except for the fact that the lowest weight for Elementary Nationals is 50 lbs.
  • The dual team is for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders.
  • You can not be 14 years old.
  • The lowest weight class this year is 50 lbs.
  • There will be a Black (1st team), Red (2nd team) White (3rd team) and Blue (4th team).

If you want to be on the Nebraska USA  Elementary dual team:

  • You must be at the Nebraska USA state tournament and place 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th in your weight class for the 5th and 6th grade division or 1st or 2nd in the 3rd and 4th grade division or 1st place in the 1st and 2nd grade division.
  • There will be some wrestle offs in the lower weight classes (60, 65, 70, 75, and 80) to give the champions and runners-up in the 3rd and 4th grade a chance to make one of the 4 dual teams. Starting at 85 lbs, we will be using 5th and 6th graders only.  There may be a possibility of a 5th/6th grade wrestler weighing significantly less that the lowest weight class of 60 in their grade division at State.  In that case, as long as the wrestler weighs in at or less than 50 or 55 pounds then that wrestler will have one opportunity to wrestle off the champion of the 3rd/4th grade division.  If there are 2 or more wrestlers in this situation then only the highest place winner in the 60 pound 5th/6th grade division will have the opportunity to challenge the 3rd/4th grade champion.  This wrestle off will happen first, prior to any 3rd/4th graders challenging up to the 5th/6th grade place winners.  Please notify USA directors prior to the tournament that this will be the intent of the wrestler if he or she is in this situation.
  • There will only be a maximum of two wrestle-offs per 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th grade champion, so chose your opponent wisely when trying to make the teams.
  • The runner-ups of the 3rd and 4th grade division get one opportunity to wrestle-off against one of the top 4 from the 5th and 6th grade division.
  • The runner-up cannot challenge higher than what the champion in their weight class challenges.
  • For the 50 and 55 pound weight classes we will primarily be qualifying top 4 out of the 3rd/4th grade division but the champion of 1st/2nd grade may challenge anyone of qualifiers from these weight classes.  Also, see previous rule about a significantly small 5th/6th grade wrestler.
  • The champion in the 1st and 2nd grade division will have the opportunity to challenge for the 50 and 55 pound weight classes (maximum 2 challenges).  These additional wrestle offs will be at the discretion of the Nebraska USA Directors.  Once the wrestle-off has been approved, the champion in the 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th grade division will challenge one of the 4 place winners of the 3rd/4th, 5th/6th grade division.  If the 1st/2nd or 3rd/4th grade champion loses, he or she will have one more wrestle-off that he or she can challenge.  If the wrestler wins, the defeated wrestler drops down to the next dual team and so on. For example:  If a champion in the 3rd/4th grade division wrestles off against the champion in the 5th/6th grade division and wins, he now has the number 1 spot on the first team.  The champion, of the 5th/6th grade division, that lost goes to 2nd team and the previous 2nd team member goes to 3rd team and the previous 3rd team member goes to 4th team.  The previous 4th place wrestler no longer is on one of the dual teams. Especially in the lower weight classes there is a possibility of a shortage of wrestlers (50, 55).  If so, the order of placing from the 1st and 2nd grade division will have an opportunity to be on one of the dual teams. ****Note**** Because of Covid 19 there's a possibility of the 1st and 2nd grade division wrestling on Sunday instead of Saturday.  This would mean if a champion in the 1st/2nd grade wants to challenge for a spot on the team at 50 or 55 pounds then a separate wrestle off must be scheduled at a later date after the tournament is complete.  It is the responsibility of the challenging wrestler to coordinate this with the Kids Director.
  • If a wrestler has qualified for the dual team and isn’t able to attend, then all the wrestlers underneath move up one spot for the higher dual team.  For example:  a wrestler in the 5th/6th grade division takes 2nd place at their weight class and isn’t able to be on the dual team.  Then, the 3rd place wrestler moves up to 2nd team spot and 4th place wrestler moves up to 3rd team spot.  This would also be the same for the 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th grade divisions.   In the event either the 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th place winners can't attend then the offer will be extended to 5th place winner.  If in extreme circumstances the 5th place winner can not attend, NEUSAW Kids Director may fill that open spot, with wrestlers that attended the State tournament, and as he deems best for the strength of the team based on results and even previous wrestling events. 
  • The cost per wrestler is $185.  This includes: entry fee, national team  t-shirt, national  team shorts, national team singlet, and national team hoodie.  

  • All wrestlers should bring some additional cash to buy snacks or event t-shirts if they choose.
  • All wrestlers will be responsible for lodging and meals.  The Team coaches will be organizing team meals so the kids and parents can bond together.  This isn’t mandatory but highly encouraged.

We do require an online payment. A link for payment will be sent to all team qualifiers. We are also looking for donations, so if you can do your part in your area of the State, it would be appreciated.

The weight classes are as follows: 
50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 112, 120,  130, 140  and 160.

The Heartland USA Elementary National Duals is on March 28th, 29th and 30th.  It will be held Mid America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Kids that make this team are responsible for their own lodging.  Good luck and see you at State on March 16th and 17th in Grand Island.
