2007 Middle School National Duals
The MSD is in Indianola, Iowa on April 13th (weigh-ins), 14th and 15th. This is a highly competitive dual tournament. We took 2 teams to Danville, IL. last year and the red team finished 6th. This dual team is for 6th, 7th and 8th graders. You can’t turn 16 years of age in 2007. The USA State tournament is divided up into age divisions such as novice, schoolboy and cadet. There may be wrestle-offs between age divisions to determine the dual team members. We would like to take 2 teams again this year. To qualify to be on the dual team you must meet the following criteria:
1. The first and foremost criteria will be placing first at the Nebraska USA State folkstyle tournament. This tournament is on March 11 at Grand Island, HS. Placing first only assures you of a wrestle-off for a spot on the dual team. Again, wrestle-offs between champions and/or placers in different age division may be needed. 2. Second criteria will be Huskerland duals on March 10 at Grand Island HS. This will be used if the wrestlers did not meet up at the state tournament because of age difference, such as novice vs schoolboy or schoolboy vs cadet. 3. If wrestler “A” defeats wrestler “B” at Huskerland duals and then wrestler “B” defeats wrestler “A” at the state tournament, then first criteria supersedes. 4. If a wrestler doesn’t win their age division, they may still wrestle off other wrestlers for a spot on the other dual team. The USA Directors will consider and determine all legitimate wrestle offs. 5. A wrestler may drop one weight class lower than their state weight bracket and wrestle off at the end of the tournament, providing their initial weigh-in for the tournament was within 3 pounds of the next lower weight class. Example: Wrestler "A" weighs 85 lbs and is wrestling at the 85 lbs weight class. Wrestler "B" weighs 88 lbs and is wrestling at the 90 lbs weight class. Wrestler "B" may challenge for the spot at 85 lbs upon approval of the USA directors. 6. Wrestle offs will take place at the end of the State tournament. 7. If a champion of an age division doesn’t want to be on the dual team then the next available wrestler in that bracket will have an opportunity to wrestle off for the dual teams.
There is a possibility of 3 champions in one weight class. Example: Novice 100, Schoolboy 100 and Cadet 98. Interested wrestlers must come to the head table and let it be known that they want to be on the MSD team. The USA directors may also require other wrestle offs as we deem necessary.
Here are additional things that will need to be complete before leaving the state tournament for those that make the dual team:
1. There will be consent forms to be filled out by all parents 2. Cost per wrestler is going to be $225. Check to made payable to Nebraska USA wrestling. 3. Copy of birth certificate 4. COPY OF REPORT CARD OR SCHOOL GRADE CERTIFICATION (ON SCHOOL LETTERHEAD) 5. AAU cards must be purchased. Cost is $12.
