Re: 2004 State Tournament and summer wrestling
It is hard to believe, but it is that time of year again, summer wrestling. I
know like many of you, we feel that things will slow down after the high school
season but it actually gets much busier for a lot of us, just ask Alan Pokorny
or Jeremy Moore! A group of us have been meeting to make plans for the Nebraska
State Freestyle and Greco tournament along with the Northern Plaines Regional
and the Middle School, Schoolboy, Cadet and Jr. National Dual teams and felt we
needed to get some communication out to everyone.
Nebraska USA Wrestling is going through some significant changes this year. We
have been blessed with a group of people who have guided our state for several
years and have done an outstanding job. However things are changing, people are
stepping down, some have moved and we have even experienced the death of a long
time board member in Joe Edmondson. I for one would like to give them a big
thank you for all the hours of hard work and dedication these people put into
wrestling and our kids. So to Dennis Miller, Liz Ferguson , James Schnell, Joe
Edmondson the Moomey’s and the many others who I have not mentioned, I
personally want to say thank you! Thank you because of your dedication kids like
my own have been given a lifetime of memories that will never be forgotten.
There are some items I would like to discuss:
First of all there has been some concern about qualifying to participate
in this years state tournament because 2 of the districts are not having a
qualifying tournament. We will not turn you away or require you top travel to
another district. If there is not a qualifier in your district please note that
on your entry form and mail to Alan Pokorny.
Second, please note the schedule change at this year’s tournament. While
trying to accommodate the juniors and their high school proms, juniors will be
doing all their wrestling on Saturday morning, both Freestyle and
the Greco. All other age groups will wrestle Saturday afternoon and Sunday no
longer three days.
Third, There will be an official’s clinic for all officials Friday
night at 6:00pm. We will review all the rules and make assignments at this
time. If you want to get paid you will be expected to attend this clinic. The
clinic will take place at the High school.
Fourth, Amy has asked all pairing officials to be at the tournament
during the Saturday morning weigh INS, to go over everything. Be there at 7:00
a.m.
Fifth, There will be a copper coaches clinic Saturday morning at
7:00 a.m. Any coach wishing to be able to be in the corner must have a
current coaches card along with a minimum of a copper coaching certificate. You
will need to show a current USA card and a copper, bronze, silver or gold
card and a PHOTO ID, to purchase your coaching wristband.
The State meeting will be held at Kearney High School Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
If you want to have anything put on the agenda, please notify, (in writing)
myself or Alan Pokorny so we can get it addressed.
As always at the State tournament, all clubs will be required to provide table
help. We will need two adults to work each table during each session. Please
provide us a list of those individuals so we are not scrambling top find help at
the tournament.
Please contact us with any questions and I look forward to seeing all of you at
the 2004 State tournament.
Sincerely
Jay Meneely
State Chairman
