Cadet National Championships
Matt Vacanti became
Nebraska's first double Cadet National Champion at the Cadet National Wrestling Championships,
held in Fargo, ND, July 24-31, 2004.
Three wrestlers achieved All American status in Greco
Roman wrestling and three were named All American in
Fresstyle. Matt Vacanti of Papillion LaVista HS was crowned
Cadet National Champion in
Greco-Roman at 119 lbs after scoring a 10-0 technical fall of nationally
ranked Chris Dioro of New York (read
about it in the Omaha World Herald). Matt then
decisioned Keith Sulzer of Ohio 4-2 in the freestyle finals Also at 119
lbs, DaVaughn Perkins of Omaha capped a strong
tournament and became an All-American with a 6th place finish
in Greco Roman wrestling. Andy Pokorny
of Bennington became a double All American by
finishing finished 5th in the nation in
Greco-Roman wrestling and third in freestyle at 91 lbs.
Kearney's Daniel Rodriguez (112 lbs) finished 2nd in
the nation in freestyle, losing only to Jimmy Kennedy of
Illinois in the finals. (Read

Junior National Championships

Two Nebraska Junior wrestlers were named All Americans
at the annual Junior National Championship in Fargo, ND on
July 24-31, 2004. Tony Valdez of Omaha finished
6th among 125 lb. wrestlers. LT Switzer of
Omaha also finished 6th at 145 lbs. Congratulations to
all Junior Wrestlers who competed in the National
Tournament! |

Nebraska USA Wrestling crowned 22 new Triple Crown Award
winners. The award is given to any wrestler that wins the state championship in all three
state tournaments.
